In Norway, defending champ Karl Roos (rhymes with “gross,” not “goose”) from Switzerland successfully defended the world title he won in Anchorage, but American youngsters from Beard Team USA came close, oh so close.
John Myatt, president of the Northern Los Angeles Beard and Moustache Club, a local chapter of Beard Team USA, took second while Travis Nance, president of the Oklahoma City Beard and Moustache Club, also a local chapter of BTUSA, took third.
This marked a significant inroad for American beardsmen. Leading up to Anchorage, only one non-German had podiumed in this category this millenium. That was Roos, from Urdorf, Switzerland, on a good day all of twenty miles from Germany. Not only that, the Swabian Beard Club has dominated this category over the years, taking ten of the fifteen trophies awarded between 2001 and 2007 including all four firsts.
But the Swabians stayed away from Trondhjem, making room for the American kids. Maybe they were scared.
