Trend Beards are short trimmed beards with designs or patterns etched into the beard. Hairs longer than 1 cm in length are not permitted. All designs and shapes are permitted. Only the facial hair (not the head hair) will be judged. A considerable portion of the face must be clean shaven. The judges will judge on neatness and tidiness of the design or pattern as well as creativity.
There is no doubt that beards are trending worldwide.
The Trend Beard category will make its world championship debut at the 2013 WBMC in Germany. There is no current world champ, but Lino Gentile, pictured above, won the category at the 2012 International German Championships. Photo by Jürgen Burkhardt. © www.bartweltmiester.de
Unlike most of the categories, which require many months or even years of fastidious facial-hair cultivation, the Trend Beard category is for those who decide at the last minute to dive head first into bearding. The maximum length of a trend beard is only 1 cm. Since beards grow at the rate of .5 mm per day, it will take the average beardsman only 20 days to go from clean shaven to too long for this category.
I smell opportunity here.
Note: The 2013 World Beard and Moustache Championships will be conducted in accordance with the official Rules and Regulations of the Association of German Beard Clubs. The description set forth above is an unofficial English translation.
