Young American beardsmen stunned the bearding world at the 2015 World Beard and Moustache Championships in Leogang, Austria on October 3 by taking first place in six different categories.  In a sport long dominated by Germans, the upstart Americans overcame the Germans’ obvious advantage of proximity at the competition held spitting distance from the German border.  

Portland, Oregon’s Madison Rowley led the charge, earning a perfect score in the full beard natural category, always the most competitive.  Perfect scores also went to Jackie Lynn Ellison in imperial moustache and Dan Lawlor in freestyle moustache.  Other Americans to win gold were Jeffrey Moustache in the Musketeer category, Patrick Fette in English Moustache, and Patrick Langley in Fu Manchu.  

The next world championship take place in Austin, Texas on Labor Day Weekend, 2017.  In 2019, Antwerp, Belgium will host the event.
