Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882) is an Italian national hero generally credited with liberating Italy from foreign control during the 19th Century.

The Garibaldi beard is a bold full beard, longer than the Verdi but shorter than most beards in the natural category.

Austrian Fritz Sendlhofer finally struck gold in this category in Norway 2011 after numerous non-gold podiums at previous WBMC’s. Fritz also won this category at the 2011 Euro championship as well as at the 2012 USA-Nationals in Las Vegas.

Alaska’s Doug Renfro (below, left), who won the category on home turf in Anchorage in 2009, finished second, while Devin Cara of Beard Team USA (below, right) was third. Cara was also third in the full beard category at the 2010 USA-Nationals, but in Norway he showed he could place without disrobing.

Note: The 2013 World Beard and Moustache Championships will be conducted in accordance with the official Rules and Regulations of the Association of German Beard Clubs. The description set forth above is an unofficial English translation.
