Crowned in Trondhjem, Finland’s Juhana Helmenkalastaja is the current world champ in this category and the first and only Finn to ever compete in the World Beard and Moustache Championships.

Helmenkalastaja beat out Max Pankow from the East Bavarian Beard Club, who took second in Anchorage as well and who won the category in 2005 and 2007.

American Aviator Jeff Well (pictured here) was third.  Well was world champ in Carson City in 2003, third in in 2005 in Berlin and third again in 2007 in Brighton.   Photo of Well by Theresa Powell.

Helmenkalastaja is rumored to have taken a victory tour to Kiskunfėlegyháza and Eyjafjallajökull with stopover in Leinfelden-Echterdingen.
