2011 World Beard and Moustache Championships – Trondhjem (Trondheim), Norway

The 2011 World Beard and Moustache Championships will take place on May 15, 2011, in Norway’s facial hair capital, Trondhjem (known as Trondheim to the uninitiated). This time it’s the Norwegian Moustache Club that’s pulling out all of the stops to welcome the world’s facial hair elite.

The competition will take place in approximately sixteen categories ranging from the delicate Dali moustache to the anything-goes full beard freestyle.

Trondhjem is the home of the Nidaros Cathedral, where Norway crowns its kings. Construction of the cathedral began in approximately 1060 as a great church worthy of sheltering the body of St. Olav, the former Viking who converted Norway to Christianity in the 11th Century. For this reason, locals consider Trondhjem the true capital of Norway.

The championships coincide with Norway’s annual national celebration on May 17. The new world champs and other contestants will be invited to participate in the parade through Trondhjem for the festivities.

Hei, hei Norge!

Stay tuned for information on competing, and come on the American group trip.
