Unbroken unshaven area from temple to chin to temple. Upper lip clean shaven.
Our Amish friends, hosts for the 2011 National Championships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, have been growing beards for America for nearly 300 years. Amish men traditionally shave until they marry, and the let their beards grow. The Amish came to this country to escape persecution in Europe. At the time, moustaches were common among their persecutors, so the Amish shave their upper lips.
This style of beard is also known as the “Donegal” or “Alaska Whaler.” Appropriately, Alaska swept the category when it was introduced at the 2009 World Championships in Anchorage.
